MC93 SCHOOL FESTIVAL, Friday May 21, 2021 Lycée Louise Michel, Terminale Spécialité DES FEMMES (Montage of 19 scenes taken from 3 plays by Molière) Presentation How to play Molière in 2021, with the troupe of students from Terminale Spécialité ? How to choose between the three works on the program, L'École des femmes (1662) and Le Tartuffe ou l'Imposteur (1669), two comedies that raised criticism and controversy, and L'Amour Médecin (1665), comedy-ballet and premiere piece staged at Versailles by the Roy's troupe ? We decided to propose a dramatic montage, composed of 19 scenes and 2 intermissions, which takes as its point of attachment the female characters. From the candid Agnès to the astute Dorine, women in Molière always manage to thwart the designs of patriarchal domination. ‟Women”…, then ! Benaki Foundation, Athens, Oedipus or the Lame King, by Jean Anouilh Adaptation and staging : Ismini Vlavianou Masks, costumes : Anne Mériaux Surtitling in Greek : Antigone Vlavianou Inter-school project with the Jeanne d'Arc high school in Piraeus, with 20 young French people and 10 young Greeks Video link of the theater course in Mandres-les-Roses : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUwNTS02ww0&t=10s The 42 students from Première Spécialité Théâtre as well as from Première and Terminale Option Théâtre met at the PEP in Mandres-les-Roses from February 26 to 29, 2020, to repeat together Oedipus or the lame king by Jean Anouilh, a modern and poetic rewriting of Oedipus king by Sophocles. The 42 students were to stage the piece during the “11th Festival of Schools”, at the MC93, on May 8 and 9, but the pandemic canceled everything. However, we were able to perform the play at the Benaki Foundation Theater in Athens on September 24, 2020 with 20 young French people and 10 young Greeks from Piraeus. Thus, in The Seven against Thebes, Eteocles, king of Thebes, warned by his messenger that Argive enemies are attacking the gates of the city, and that his brother Polynice is posted in front of the seventh gate, goes to confront him. Long before Sophocles' Antigone, Aeschylus' tragedy makes women's voices heard : powerless against the decisions of men, they condemn fratricidal struggles by granting the two sons of Oedipus the same burial. Argos, a city equaling Athens in its social and political justice, is the country of origin of their ancestor Io… Will King Pelasgos and the Pelasgians grant them political asylum? ? Les Suppliantes, a play in which is mentioned for the first time democracy is the only ancient tragedy in which the Chorus plays the main role. This year we are preparing Les Suppliantes, written in the 5th century BC by Aeschylus, with an adaptation by one of our drama teachers : Mrs. Vlavianou. On first reading, I didn't really like the play, especially because it included a choir made up of several girls, requiring a joint movement at the same time. Subsequently, as I became acquainted with the piece, I particularly liked it for its background which exposed to me what I did not know by my own will about my origins and pushed me to face the fate of the women in my family, victims of destiny, like the Danaides in our play, forced to marry their cousins. Through the incarnation of the role of the Coryphée, with lyrics expressing the resistance mixed with the despair of the Danaides, I am not content to simply play a role. Being sensitive to the women's cause, I pay tribute at the same time to the women of my family and all the women in the four corners of the world, who unfortunately have not had, or still do not have the legitimacy to oppose the decisions of the patriarchy. . When I say : " I would like to be a black smoke…rather perish in a mortal fall than undergo a criminal marriage against my will I am thinking of my aunt who committed suicide following a forced marriage, or of my grandmother who tried to run away on the wedding night and who was arrested by my grandfather, desperately abandoned her body in his arms. I also represent my condition as an immigrant in France through the Danaides who came to Argos with the hope of being protected on these lands. When one of my classmates says : " Do you understand my words despite my barbaric accent ? », I think of myself, who does not always have the same privileges as the people around me, even though I went through the same school career, having acquired the same knowledge. At the end of the piece, with the incarnation of the corypheus, my words opting for the best of the worst and for the middle voice represent the phosphorescence in the midst of the darkness where the Danaides find themselves in despair in the face of destiny. By pronouncing these words, as an 18-year-old girl, I also express my faith in the evolution of mores and the gaze of society. Thus the play of the Suppliants manages to have an impact on the " actors », with its strength due in particular to the fact that it remains contemporary while being originally ancient. What it represents most difficult, but at the same time wonderful is the movement of the choir with different bodies, girls of different ethnic origins expressing the same sadness and claiming the same rights. I see this as a beautiful picture that should be a good example in the world, pushing women who share the same pain to come together to make their voices heard.

Room program for AJAX by Sophocles Ajax, the first of the Greeks in Troy, seeing himself refused the arms of the legendary Achilles, leaves to kill the leaders of the Greek army in retaliation. The Miser, by Molière Theatrical adaptation and staging : Ismini Vlavianou Associate Professor : Anne Mériaux Artistic speaker : Samir Siad Harpagon is a much worse man than Dom Juan ; he is Molière's most odious character. Nothing can redeem the black soul of the Miser : neither the filial love for Elise and Cléante, nor his caprice for Mariane, nor any compassion for men or animals, worthy of the honest man of his time, survives the villainous adoration for his cassette. And yet, The Miser is a comedy ; Harpagon is a role tailor-made for Molière by himself. The comedy is more than ever here in the collision of opposing registers ; worse : we laugh in front of cruel action and we cry in front of pure love. In this ballet of contrasting registers, Harpagon appeared to us in the plural ; Menacing or ridiculous, irascible or sneaky, the Miser is the eternal villain. Louise MicheL high school in Bobigny Argan is a legendary hypochondriac. But why does this caprice deprive the father of his lucidity towards the feelings of his wife, Béline, and his daughter, Angélique? If Béralde contrasts intellectual intelligence with the madness of the medical profession, don't Toinette and Angélique depict that of the heart which ultimately cures the sick body of the master of the house, Argan? It is this intelligence of the heart soothing the relationships between the members of a family that guides us in the representation on stage of the varied forms and registers exploited by Molière in this ballet comedy.
