At the Château de Ferbroques, it's time for preparations for the annual festival. Tiger, the Count, leads his troop of aristocrats

for the performances of La Double inconstance by Marivaux: the Countess Eliane and her lover Villebosse, Héro, the lifelong friend, Hortensia, the Count's official mistress, and the businessman, Mr. Damiens. But the role of Sylvia is assigned to the goddaughter of Mr. Damiens, the young commoner Lucile, who will teach the Count that there is "something else in the world than pleasure"...

Representative of Anouilh's Brilliant Pieces, La Répetition ou l'amour puni, a late play, masterfully illustrates the exercise of theater in the theatre; it questions the relationship between person and character by exposing the tragic balance between the dream of man and its grotesque realization.
